Antique Wooden Boats on Parade on Lake Rabun I Hullinger's Musings

Lake Rabun’s 835 acres are rich with Georgia lore. It’s a place where beauty meets tradition, where generations have come to leave their mark. For more than a century, business and political leaders have escaped here, claiming a spot along its 25 miles of shoreline. Mostly hidden from the road, the lake reveals itself best from a boat, where you can soak in the mountain air and that timeless Rabun vibe. Chances are, that boat will be vintage, made of gleaming wood with stories of its own. And on July 4, the lake puts on one of Georgia’s must-see events: the Antique Wooden Boat Parade, hosted by the Lake Rabun Association. It’s a celebration from stem to stern, and we captured it all in our GPB “summer postcard” video.

Southeastern Railway Museum still a thrilling ride

Take a historic ride with GPB’s Jeff Hullinger as he explores the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, Georgia. The museum has been placed on the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2025 Places in Peril list because many of its rare railcars are in desperate need for restoration. The museum’s collection, spread across 35 acres, is unexpectedly cool, vast, and varied as we discovered.
